Material and care guide for your treasures

Gold-toned jewelry enhances any ensemble and beautifully suits all skin tones. Our collection is crafted from gold-plated, nickel-free brass – and for good reason. Unlike many other metals, brass has a naturally warm tone that makes gold plating glow with a more authentic golden hue. It’s a classic jewelry material, cherished for centuries and still loved by small artisan brands and luxury houses for the pleasant feel, durability, and elegance it brings. Malleable, recyclable, and timeless, brass truly brings out a golden glow – without the solid-gold price tag.

Our collection features two types of gold finishes: gold-plated and gold-filled.

Show off your shine with these simple tips

Gold-plated brass undoubtedly garners admiring glances. However, it also accumulates dirt, dust, oils, lotions, perfumes, and other substances from the wearer’s skin. Over time, this can speed up natural tarnishing. This is not a flaw but part of the jewelry’s character – something to be embraced. Yet, with a little care, you can slow this process down and keep the golden glow for years to come.

Remember this with gold-plated jewelry

Although we don’t always follow this rule ourselves 😇, we strongly recommend removing your jewelry before going to sleep, showering, swimming, entering a sauna, or exercising. Sweat, heat, water immersion, and various chemicals can damage the surface of the plating.

Gold-plated jewelry loves a little pampering

Give jewelry a break between wears, and before that, wipe it gently with a soft cotton pad. Never scrub — rubbing can thin the plating and dull the shine. Most importantly, don’t store your jewelry dirty. Left uncleaned, residues can cause tarnishing and even small pits over time, permanently damaging the finish.

Every now and then, gold-plated jewelry deserves a little spa day – luckily, it’s easy to do at home.

Polishing cloth – Hot or not?

There are various polishing cloths available that contain polishing chemicals. These cloths can easily remove tarnishing from the jewelry surface and make the metal shine. However, when using a jewelry polishing cloth, be very careful not to rub away the gold finish from the jewelry surface. Therefore, we recommend cleaning gold-plated jewelry with a water-soap solution and a cotton swab.

Plated or filled? What's the difference?

GOLD-PLATING gives brass jewelry a beautiful golden color and protects the brass from oxidation, a reaction similar to the tarnishing of silver. However, gold plating does not withstand harsh abrasion, strong chemicals, or, for example, sauna heat. Therefore, we recommend removing these gold-plated pieces before showering, swimming, exercising, sauna sessions, or applying creams or perfumes. When properly maintained, gold-plated jewelry remains long-lasting.

THE AND collection's gold-plated jewelry has an 18k gold finish and is 1 micron thick.

GOLD-FILLED also provides a beautiful hue and protects the surface from oxidation. However, it's much thicker than gold-plating, making it more durable and able to withstand slightly rougher use. Gold-filled jewelry brings you many of the same qualities you love in solid gold. Still, to ensure its longevity, it should be treated as gently as gold-plated jewelry.

THE AND collection’s gold-filled pieces contain a quantity of 1/20 14K, meaning that 5% of the total mass of the jewelry or jewelry part is 14k gold.
